My comments on tutoring Violin : I played violin for seven years in school and private lessons.

I try to use various activities and techniques when teaching to keep students interested. This also helps them (and me) to determine the way(s) that they learn best. I also like to ask the students first what they think the answer is or how a problem should be approached before feeding them a solution. I encourage questioning and discussions at every turn. Overall, I want to create a friendly yet effective environment for optimal teaching and learning.

I am proficient as a teacher and performer on the violin, viola, and cello. I was placed first stand in the Kendall Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony Orchestra, and in the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra. I also played viola in the 2009 and 2010 All-State Orchestras. Currently I play violin in the Georgia State University Orchestra, I perform composer's new works in the Atlanta area, and I also enjoy playing in contemporary worship bands. Violin is one of my top subjects! I played the violin throughout my youth from the age of 8 until I was 20. I recently picked it back up seriously again, and currently am playing with the Athens Symphony. I studied with master teachers in my youth and have played with many ensembles and symphonies as well been a featured soloeist in my younger performing days.

12 years serious playing and 12 years casual playing. Although I took quite a long break from playing seriously I continued to pick up the instrument and practice on my own for pleasure. Recently, I decided to pick it up more seriously and auditioned to play with the Athens Symphony. I currently sit in the 1st violin section.

I worked at Mathnasium for two years. Mathnasium is a math tutoring center for children ranging from kindergarten to graduating high schoolers. I taught everything from basic arithmetic to calculus. I tutored calculus at the college level. I independently advertised my tutoring services. I mostly tutored Calculus I (not including linear algebra).
I work as a one-on-one tutor. It is my teaching philosophy that the best tutor leads the child to discover the answer himself/herself. Thus, I employ various techniques to help the child think about the problem in a different way. For example, when teaching a child to do arithmetic, for example, adding 8, I would tell the child to add 10 and then subtract 2. This leads to quick math computation and a better understanding of math foundations.
