My comments on tutoring Journalism : As a high school English teacher I also served as newspaper and yearbook advisor. I also worked as a freelance writer for a small town newspaper.

I believe learning should always be engaging and meaningful. It is critical to address individual student learning modalities and needs so the student can experience great success. They work because they promote high student investment and engagement.

My comments on tutoring Journalism : My Bachelors has a focus on broadcast journalism, but I also spent a few semesters on the college newspaper and I have a lot of experience with the hard and soft skills of journalism

I have worked in art and graphic design professionally for the past 6 years, however I have been freelancing and creating art for myself since 1998. I previously worked for the Hayward Area Historical Society, which included assisting in design for exhibits as well as some teaching to visiting school groups. I have also been asked to teach small groups of children about art, or help with general homework on numerous occasions.
I work best one-on-one or in small groups, I can adjust my style to what a person needs after speaking with them for a while and understanding how they learn. I've found the best way to teach someone a new way of looking at something is to understand how they currently perceive it.

More About This Tutor...

I was taught at a early age to be the best I possibly could. I was taught to do my best. That has stuck with me all the way through college. I have earned a BS degree in Communication which has given me a knowledge of how to write effectively. I took an editing course which focused on the fundamentals of writing along with correct editing skills. I have had the opportunity to teach individuals in their home while serving a church mission for two years. Also within my church I have taught children the doctrinal basics of the church.
Teaching children is a passion of mine. They soak in the knowledge like a sponge. I am patient, easy going, but also know the task at hand. I try to find the best way to teach that individual child. Every child learns in a different way. I seek to find that way. Since I learn best in a hands-on manner I try to teach that same way.

A Little Bit About Me...

I've taught more than 600 classes in Livermore's schools, creating a superb awareness of how to teach a variety of individuals. I graduated magna cum laude in journalism which has given me exceptional knowledge of writing, reading, grammar and vocabulary. On a broader scale, I hope to leave students with an increased ability to organize their time and materials, and to master study skills that will aid them in the rest of their academic pursuits - as well as their future careers.
My teaching style is that learning should be fun! I use humor, encouragement, enthusiasm and interest to make sure students feel invested in learning and improving. Drudgery never succeeds in the long run. Confidence and comfort are key to students gaining competency, and I strive to discover each student's learning style in order to individually help them.

A Little Bit About Me...

In 1983 I completed an ESL teacher training course at Stanford University, and subsequently was hired to teach English in Japan. I made heavy use of the prevailing ideas in ESL teaching at that time. More recently, in designing teaching materials for middle and high school students, I have attempted to map my lessons to the cognitive skills identified in Bloom's taxonomy.
Over the past decade I have also prepared science curriculum materials (middle and high school) for Glencoe McGraw-Hill, Gale Thomson, Pearson and John Wiley. I am the author of The Globalization of Trade, an introduction to the economics of globalization for young readers (published in 2004). Most of my curriculum writing has been science-related, but I have also prepared articles in other areas for Gale Thomson's reference books. My academic training was in the physical sciences (physics, chemistry). I ear ... read more

I believe that kids learn better when they are enjoying themselves and sometimes even having fun! I try to make the things they are learning interesting and entertaining. If a child does not want to learn, they won't, by adding fun into the equation, you have created the desire to learn in that child. I am very patient and easy-going, but I also know when to lay down the law. I believe that life is very hard without a thorough education, and instilling early in a child the importance of education will only make their lives a little easier.
I earned my Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2003 and I have taught creative writing, theatre, playwriting, and acting since then. In 2005, I gained my substitute teacher credential and have taught all around Sacramento, substituting for teachers in all subjects. I also write plays and poems. A Little Bit About Me...

I love learning, and try to impart its joy to all I encounter. Much of that joy is realized by my students in developing and mastering needed and wanted skills. It is a further delight to me that so many of my students do “turn on” admirably as they realize progress in academic spheres they previously found discouragingly challenging. The variety of approaches I have mastered in presenting materials and individualizing practice makes my service as a learning guide perfect for the previously-frustrated student. I love learning, and I never give up on anyone!
Individualizing English grammar, composition, and lit. instruction became a teaching strength during 12 years in secondary schools. Skills for ELLs were honed by nine years at a Japanese university. I tutored adults in my “Have English-Will Travel” company serving personal/business needs of Silicon Valley firms’ foreign national ... read more
