Believe in yourself, and you are half-way there!

My teaching style depends on the student. I am comfortable with trying different study methods in order to figure out why my student is having trouble with a particular subject.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I love being able to help students feel comfortable with the material they are studying. I have tutored numerous times throughout college, and would like to get back into tutoring students because I find it to be rewarding. As a student who went from living in Germany and being taught that there are many ways of getting the right answer, to moving to America where everything is taught in one way, I have learned to incorporate my tutoring skills to the need of each individual student. I try to figure out what works best for every individual and help them focus on their strength and improve their weaknesses.

My comments on tutoring Physics : Many times Fluid Mechanics is understood as part of physics (as it is) and not only as engineering. I am experienced professor in Fluid Mechanics for Chemical Engineers, so my help in this subject can be useful for another disciplines.

I am Chemical Engineer since 1983 and have been Lecturer at the Universidad Central de Venezuela for more than 30 years. I got my PhD at the Karlsruhe university (today Karlsruhe Institute of Technology). My teaching experience is mainly in Thermodynamics and Transport Phenomena, teaching among others Chemical Engineering Principles, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Separation Processes, Solid-Liquid Separations, Particle Technology. I have also some industrial experience in the alumina industry where have been process engineer during the plant expansion from 1.3 to 2.0 MMTPY at the end of the 80's. My research field is Fluid-Particle Systems in particular Solid-Liquid Separation, but also processes where particle size distribution affects the performance
Understand the basic phenomena is the best way to process engineering success

In Physics especially tutoring, the approach that gives me best result so far is to directly engage the student in solving Physics problems. It is one thing to present the subject matter but it is a whole different thing to solve problems. Most students don't really understand the significance of the theory or law until they apply in solving physics problems especially those with relevance to real life situations. Since most of the theory were taught in school already, I kind of directly immerse the student to problem solving because that is where you will know whether the student understand the subject matter or not. It is a kind of hands-on approach.
I have tutored high school students before for about two years on high school Physics. I was a university Physics teacher for three years teaching non-Physics major and Physics major students on astronomy, mechanics, electrodynam ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Siena College and had earned a bachelor degree of science in physics with a minor in mathematics. I have also taken a course in education, as well as tutoring others in mainly their mathematics work. I have taken all levels of physics from physics and AP physics in highschool to advanced physics classes in college. For mathematics I have taken all levels from algebra to Calculus III to Applied Math II. I also have worked for three years in the information technology services at Siena to assist with computers. I love teaching and helping others.
I love to work with those of all ages. I will make sure not just give away the answer of the problem, but help the student with the steps to get the right answer. I will make sure to help the student with everything they need assistance with.

More About This Tutor...

As a PhD in Chemical Engineering, I have a strong background in Math and Chemistry courses and am well qualified to teach high school and college chemistry and math courses. I taught math and chemistry courses in the college level, conceptualizing and designing courses in General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Algebra, and Geometry for undergraduate students in science and engineering field, both lecture and laboratory courses.
My major objectives for student learning include: 1) to effectively impart knowledge and principles based on student background, 2) to encourage and practice critical and independent thinking, and 3) to develop effective measures to determine what the student learned. Based on my teaching experience, I would simplify complex topics through basic examples, graphic illustrations, and analogies. I would be flexible and open to the use of new technological m ... read more

I think the best way a student can learn is one-on-one because then they are less fearful to ask questions or make a mistake. This is helpful because then the tutor can see where the students are struggling, and focus on that area. I also think the best way for students to learn is through having something modeled, then guide them through an example, and then done on their own. I believe that patience is a key to being a successful math tutor, because many people do not understand math as easily as others. Problems may need to be done over and over again, or reteaching in many different ways until the students can understand the material in a way that makes sense to them.
I have been tutoring at Sacred Heart University for three years now. For the first year, I worked as a Classroom Learning Assistant, where students could come whenever I had my hours and I would help as many stud ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a pretty high energy style of teaching. I like to get students actively involved in asking questions because this can allow them to learn at a much faster rate. I'm very much into teaching the 'larger picture' when it comes to academics. My philosophy is that if a student can get engaged in understanding the theories behind details then the details become easy. I can bring this philosophy to your children and teach them how to become excited about school.
As a graduate of Amherst College, I have been fortunate to have a great education. I majored in Political Science and consider myself a great writer. I also completed all the premedical requirements, and have taken 10 lab science courses in college from Physics to Biology. I would be comfortable teaching Writing and Reading Comprehension up through the college level. I would also excel at teaching science through int ... read more
