Ever since I was a young college student, I have had a desire for educating young people and adults. I enjoy observing their enthusiasm upon connecting with a subject. I have earned a bachelor degree in elementary education, as well as an endorsement in the area of ESL (English as a Second Language). I have taken many courses in the teaching of both reading and writing. My teaching journey has taken me to many different places and I've had the opportunity to work with all ages of students from 3 year olds to college-age. Specifically I have experiences with students who are from culturally and linguistically diverse backrounds and also with students with special needs and learning disabilties. In the last few years I have tutored students one-on-one in organizational skills, studying for tests, writing and editing.
I find that students (myself included) learn best when they feel safe and that they can be successful. I believe it's important to teach in the zone of proximal development and build on a student's interests.
