"How many different ways can I teach a concept?" is the mentality I use when working with students. Every student learns in his/her own unique way. Being creative, adaptive, and fun are essential. I live for that "ah-ha moment" where everything clicks. It's no secret that we succeed in the things that we love doing. I am a strong believer in the Socratic method of teaching, which from my understanding, means asking the student questions regarding what they already know about a concept in order to customize the lesson and/or "lead" them to the answer. I also try to use analogies and real life examples that are tailored according to the interests of my student. For example, if my student is interested in sports, then I try to use sports analogies and examples to describe difficult concepts. I am a teacher who has learned through experience. I went from college to Kenya to teach in an international school for 2 years. I learned a lot about teaching and culture during that time. When I returned I subbed for 2.5 years in which I learned more than all my schooling.
