A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught students using individualized, regular classroom and group setting. My last several years, I taught CPM, developed at UC, Davis; using problem-solving techniques in groups and basic computation skills in Algebra. I believe it is important for students to receive the basic fundamentals and move on from there with each of the skill levels in mathematics.

A Little Bit About Me...

Children are amazing! I have been around children of all ages for most of my life due to a large family. Every child has an opportunity to be the next Albert Einstein however I feel that it is the lack of understanding on the teachers behalf on how to teach to the different needs of the children that keeps the children from learning all that they could. Every person learns differently and I feel that I have the ability to help the children learn at their own pace and relate the material to them so they can better understand. Though some children can be difficult to teach I feel that I am very patient and endearing and have the ability to work with all different types of children to help them succeed and increase their knowledge.

As Cal Poly SLO has one of the most competitive engineering programs on the west coast, I have a depth of knowledge in both math and sciences. After earning my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, I lived in Germany, Ohio, and Central California while trying to figure out my place in this world. I settled for two years in Salinas, California where I taught pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry to junior high and high school students. I believe this level of math is the most important as applications to everyday life are abundant.
As the school I taught at was private, the students were very competitive. I found my lectures and class activities reached 90% of the students. This is a highly interactive style which leads the student to uncover the answer themselves as opposed to the teacher simply reciting the answer to them. Guided Discovery requires the student to learn by doing therefore developing necessary problem solving and deductive skills that will make them better learners and thinkers both now and in the future.
