My comments on tutoring Special Education : Certification in Special Education with experience at multiple grade levels.

My teaching style depends on the student I am working with. Teaching is about working with the student in the way that works best for them. I hold my students to high expectations that I know they are capable of reaching. I think it is important for students to identify their goals to help them determine their educational path.
I have been teaching and tutoring for many years. I have tutoring experience for students in grades 1,2,3,and 5. I have teaching experience in Special Education and Elementary Education in grades K,1,2,4, and 5. I began my career as a teacher's assistant. I taught second grade for 2 years. I currently teach 5th grade. My student teaching was completed at all grade levels with a concentration in k-2 and 4-5.

After graduating college I taught elementary K-8th grade in NYC. I taught for one year and decided to live Paris, France teaching English. I lived in Paris, France for 1.5 years then moved to Rome, Italy, again teaching English. My experiences were wonderful as I met people who really enjoyed learning English and needed it for work. After 6 months I returned to the states and taught at a Junior High School on the Lower eastside of NYC. I left teaching after 10 years to market computers. My skills as an educator served me well and I did extremely well. After approximately 8 years I decided I wanted to go back to teaching, and have been teaching the use of computers. I enjoy helping individuals to increase their skills and achieve success!
As I read the example noted below, I hear an echo, YES, I too love to teach. I see myself as a mentor. Listening and watching how people learn, wh ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I teach to my students so they can learn. Each of my students has a different modality of acquiring and retaining information, so I assess that style and present instruction in a way that is meaningful. My work towards a master's degree in special education highlighted the various ways in which a student gains knowledge. I use that information to engage and educate my students.
I began my teaching career in Cooperstown, NY in 2001, as a mid-career professional in search of a meaningful job. Previously, I worked in the entertainment industry. Seeking to make a difference in the lives of our children, I moved to Los Angeles to teach English to the children of Latino immigrants. It was the highlight of my teaching profession. Subsequently, my husband and I relocated to NY state where I have been teaching high school (all subjects) to emotionally challenged adolescent students. I h ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very hands on, activity based teacher. I follow the rule of Explain, Example, Exercise. I make sure to have many different types of learning so that each student can be successful. I want my students to be excited about my class, so I am always changing and molding my activities to stay current. I have a classroom that is full of colors, and ideas. I try to get my students to have a higher level of thinking, and help them along with inquisitive questions, and opened ended statements.
I have a BFA in Graphic Design and a MS in applied technology education. I am also currently pursuing my administration certification. I have been an adjunct professor at a local 2 year college, and I have been teaching 7-12 grade since 2006. I am confident in my skills as a teacher and a leader and think that my real world business experience background gives me an edge with the students becau ... read more

I have spent the last two years working with elementary age children with autism. I have also spent a couple months during the spring working with culturally diverse children, some with special needs, in an after school program in Sydney Australia. I have experience working 1:1 with children with autism in a self-contained classroom. I have be trained and have a great deal of experience with TCI . This opportunity to work as a Tutor would allow me to apply and develop my skills as well as gain further experience with those with special needs. With my knowledge of autism, psychology and my ability to work well with others, as well as my experience with children with autism and special needs I would be a great asset to your staff.

As a Buffalo State graduate, I have received Dean's List award. I have earned two Master Degrees, Master of Social Science in Public Administration and Master of Science in Reading that helped me to teach to the students who face difficulties in the content area reading. I am exposed to and trained with numerous research-based reading programs such as Reading Recovery, Fountas and Pinnell GRL, and more. As an AIS teacher, I pull out students to teach math and reading skills. Currently, I teach ESL to the adult students as well.
I am blessed that I am not academically extremely intelligent. Otherwise, I could never be sympathetic to the students who struggle processing various concepts. This thought brings me to the scientist Einstein, who says, "It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer." I believe in being persistent, consistent, and have patience ... read more

Again, I have learned that all children learn differently and one approach does not work for all. I have several tried and true techniques to guide my son in the learning (in mainly reading and comprehension) and not only help him learn, but to make it an enjoyable experience. I am very patient and nurturing and work very well with children at the elementary level. I can switch gears on a dime if plan A is not working. I try to make games out of learning if possible so that the child does not lose interest and 'shut down' as my son sometimes did.
I have worked with children for 30 years. I understand the elementary level reading progam having subbed for teachers, teaching assistants and reading teachers for 2 years. I taught pre-reading skills to 3 year old children for 8 years in a local preschool. I am 3/4 of the way through my Teaching Assistant Certification. I have ... read more

Sine high school, I have worked with children in BOCES. However, I started college later in life, after children and marriage. I wanted to provide my children with an education that I couldn't afford since I knew nothing of grants in 1974. I started with my AA and did not stop until I achieved my MS. My education has taught me discipline, research, study habits, and critical thinking skills. I have tutored students K-12; in Language Arts, Reading, Literature, English, Parenting, Nutrition, Careers, and electives for 11 years. Each individual student has taught me something new.
My teaching style is to discovery how each child learns, whether it is visual, audio, movies, written, tactile, CD's, adaptive technology, and re-learning. I want my students to have success and become life-long learners while providing them with the tools that help them reach their potential. Learning ... read more

Teaching is my passion! I believe that every child has a person learning style and that once a teacher can tap into the child's interests and find a way to engage them in their own learning, this will lead the child on a road to success!
Over the years, I have had the ability to work in various grade levels in various school districts. During my student teaching I had the chance to teach first and fourth grade. After graduating, I subbed in many school districts throughout the Capital Region. I worked as a teacher's assistant in a self-contained classroom serving children between first and third grade. I had the opportunity to work one on one with them and contribute to helping them successfully reach some of their IEP goals. I currently work as a Pre-k teacher in a local elementary school and work to meet their indiviual needs every day.

I am a strong believer in Multiple Intelligences. I know that first I must learn who my students are and how they learn if I am to teach them successfully. I employ the Socratic method often possible, and keep lessons as student-centered as possible. I frequently make use of the students' interests and technology to engage them. Students thrive when they see the usefulness of what they are learning, and when techniques are adapted to their needs.
As a professional educator, I am dedicated to seeing all students succeed. I have earned two bachelor degrees, a BA in History and a BA in English, as well as New York State certification and my MAT Social Studies. I have tutored throughout my academic career, and continue to teach and tutor in a wide variety of subjects.

There is nothing I love more than working with children. I am continually fascinated by how children learn and how they help me to grow as an educator. I consider myself to be very patient and caring. I know that learning is a process and just like any other process, it takes time with the right techniques and practice. I also consider myself to be very diverse with my learning styles. Personally, I learn best by utilizing different approaches to information; listening to information, visually seeing information, manipulating objects. Therefore, I enjoy teaching to fit the individual's needs of grasping the information. Teaching, like learning is multifaceted.
I have been given a solid education at the undergraduate level at The College of Saint Rose where I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Education. I have my NYS Initial Teaching Certification in both Early Chi ... read more

I do not believe in standardized testing. Each child has the capability of learning, but not all children have the ability to take tests, for whatever reason. I tend to "test" by playing games, such as Jeopardy, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, etc...and have the questions be cumulative in nature, not just on the part that we are learning. This makes the kids have to learn and absorb the information, and I was told by some students that they like the way I do it. With football, it's basically the same way. I myself have learned to become more patient, more understanding, and a better listener. I have discovered that the people tend to underestimate kids, and if they really want to learn, they will.
I have spent my whole adullt life tutoring, mentoring and being a role model to others by being involved as a coach for the local Pop Warner football team, as well as serving as a tu ... read more
