A Little Bit About Me...

I hope you can bring your textbook and study materials with your homework and exam papers while tutoring. I can help you find out the answers of your questions and improve your study.
I have recently graduated from Wayne State University as a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. During my Ph.D. study, I have some experience to help undergraduate students on their homework. Also, I have mentored several summer students on their research and daily lab work. I am pretty happy to help students succeed in their courses. Since my major is Biochemistry, I think I have abilities to help students in general science classes, such as mathematics, chemistry and any life science courses. Besides these science courses, my native language is chinese and I think I can help your chinese too, if you like chinese and chinese culture.

Recently Retired Female Engineer

I am a recently retired engineer. I spent last summer working in a City of Detroit grade school as a tutor. About ten years ago I taught Environmental Science classes at Wayne State as an adjunct faculty. This is the only official experience I have had teaching/tutoring; however during my academic career I frequently explained course material to fellow students and to study partners. During the 30 years I worked as a Chemist and as an Engineer I was frequently asked to explain technical information to a lay audience since I seemed to have a knack for doing just that.
I would classify my tutoring style as "old school." Ladies and gentlemen, the best way to learn a problem-based subject such as math or chemistry is to solve problems; there are no short cuts.

As a teacher, I aim to perpetuate knowledge and inspire learning. More specifically, as a biologist I present the material with enthusiasm and point to its relevance in everyday life. Students respond better to learning something that impacts their lives rather than random facts. While teaching general biology, I noticed that several students would come into class assuming that they were unable to learn anything scientific. Students get overwhelmed with scientific jargon and spend too much time trying to memorize facts rather than learning processes. To alleviate this issue, I introduce terminology as it relates to the issue rather than simply expounding on definitions.
I have devoted my energies towards learning the basic sciences and then using them for developmental purposes In August 2010, I received my Master of Science degree in Biology at the University of Houston. Also ... read more

My comments on tutoring Life Science : A favorite subject.

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The importance of education and the students' continuance of same cannot be stressed enough.
I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects ... read more

Life Science is one of my top subjects! I have done 2 postdoctorates in cancer Biology and have taught Biochem masters level students

I always tailor my teaching style to the personality and needs of my students with the objective of helping them to become the best they can be. I am patient, kind and friendly at the same time firm and structured when it comes to learning. I use this approach with my own children and after I am done teaching them a portion of a topic I always make them talk about it to check their cognitive recall. I have found that appreciation for every milestone achieved goes a long way.
I come from a family of teachers and professors and love to share my knowledge with today's students who are are tomorrow's future. During my career have been tutoring, mentoring, teaching, volunteering, training, or instructing my own children who are both A+ students, during my career as an Associate Professor , residents, college students at work, for my church and for my colleagues and friends. I have passi ... read more

MIT alum looking to tutor students in sciences and math

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). I also have a minor in Biology and Psychology. I have tutored several students during my studies, specifically in the sciences and math. I also have excelled in my English and writing classes throughout high school and college.
I love helping students understand concepts that might be confusing at first. I try to help them understand the big picture and then help them work through more detailed questions.
