Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. Recently Retired Female Engineer

I would classify my tutoring style as "old school." Ladies and gentlemen, the best way to learn a problem-based subject such as math or chemistry is to solve problems; there are no short cuts.
I am a recently retired engineer. I spent last summer working in a City of Detroit grade school as a tutor. About ten years ago I taught Environmental Science classes at Wayne State as an adjunct faculty. This is the only official experience I have had teaching/tutoring; however during my academic career I frequently explained course material to fellow students and to study partners. During the 30 years I worked as a Chemist and as an Engineer I was frequently asked to explain technical information to a lay audience since I seemed to have a knack for doing just that.

I am a patient and detail-oriented. My teaching style is to go over the material at hand and break it down to a point where the student gets a full understanding of the lesson being taught. I sometimes use stories, props, or simply breaking down the problem so that it is easier to comprehend. It is important to me that the person I am teaching fully understands the lesson, because in a classroom setting one lesson builds upon another and that string of lessons leads to testing.
