Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. If a child feels as though they are in an atmosphere where they are safe, free of ridicule and bias, then they are willing to perform. This process can be a give take scenario however. So, some flexibility is required as well, but eventually the student will become more comfortable with themselves and confident in what they are capable of.

While in college, I spent my time home from school substitute teaching through Frederick County Public Schools. After graduation from American University, I continued to substitute and in the fall of 2005 I took a part-time position at a middle school, teaching Theatre Arts and Music Performance Lab. While teaching, I began my teaching certification through the Maryland State Department of Education, where I completed a course called Inclusion: Making it Happen. I also taught dance at Dance Unlimited and Elite Feet Dance studios in addition to working at numerous children's theatre camps throughout Maryland and West Virginia.

My Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and my Master's degree as a certified Reading Specialist, not only provided me with the knowledge to teach students who were struggling with the basic reading skills, but also helped to enhance my skills as a reading teacher within a regular classroom.
