As a holder of a BS in Chemistry, I have a very strong grasp of science and mathematics, as well as a passion for the written word. I have volunteer experience tutoring my fellow students at Eastwood High School, out of which came two years' of summer tutoring for one of the individuals I helped while volunteering. My methods are amorphous and change to the needs of the student, but typically fall in the range of serious, yet enthusiastic and fun.
I feel the need for tutoring is the need to simply obtain information in a form that is different from the one presented in the classroom. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with emphasis on Biological Sciences and Earth Sciences. I was a teacher in the public school system for 6 years. I taught Science from grade 7 through senior level, encompassing Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Physics. I believe that no two students learn alike and the most important thing is to make sure students are having fun with learning. If learning is looked at as boring or hard students will try to avoid it, when learning is fun students learn without realising the work involved. I believe that students learn best when they are involved in the process. Therefore I like to put students in charge of their learning-whether it is presenting information gathered for a presentation or helping to develop the topics that will be discussed in a particular unit; as long as they are involved and not passive in the process students will learn. I believe it is my job to act as a guide not a dictator in a students education.
Currently, I hold a bachelor of history degree and I am working on obtaining teacher licensure at the Masters level in curriculum and instruction: AYA social studies.
