A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the most important element of teaching and tutoring is the ability to vary one's teaching style to meet the learning style of a student. I am patient and comfortable explaining things multiple times and in multiple ways. I believe I have the creativity to help any student find a way to make sense of his or her material. I believe firmly in experiential education, in which subject matter becomes alive to the learner through activities or other practical approaches. I believe that students with all ability levels can master the subject matter with the proper support and the right approach and I believe that I am perceptive enough to be able to find such an approach for any student.

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduation, I taught on a transitional teaching license. I taught in the Woodburn School District. I then went to Japan and taught English as a second language. I grew up between Bolivia and the United States and speak Spanish and English fluently. I took statistics in university and taught math in Spanish from time to time as a substitute for the Woodburn School District. In Woodburn I taught a self contained classroom for a while. I had to teach ELL students Social Studies, Math, Language arts in both Spanish and English and science. As a substitute I taught all kinds of classrooms including all subject matters. This makes me qualified to teach a variety of subject matters in a variety of situations.

I am a firm believer in demanding excellence from my students. Also, without a goal one cannot achieve anything; therefore we set challenging goals, and utilize every resource in our capacity to achieve those goals. To take the student on the most challenging course as an educator sometimes we must take the course with them. Rather than teach to the student, we immerse ourselves into the lesson as a learner and play the inquisitive intellectual, prodding ideas and eagerness from our students.
