I use a variety of teaching styles, i.e cooperative learning, learning centers, interactive learning, sight and tactile learning. The school system I am in emphasizes Differentiated Instruction. I believe I make a difference in student's lives both educationally and as a role model.
My experience as a teacher began when I was in the U.S. Navy, I was an Financial and Department Training instructor. After retiring from the Navy I went to work in the school system as a security assistant. After one year I resigned and went to Norfolk State University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a major concentration in Learning Disabled and a minor in Emotionally Disturbed. Ten years later I earned a Master's Degree in Education from Cambridge College. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and working with all children. I am a true believer that all children learn differently. I like to engage my students in any way necessary. I have the unusual ability to teach in a way that each individual can relate to and on a level that they can each understand. I feel that all people can learn given the right circumstances and a teacher that understands the way that person is able to learn. Learning is a process and I approach teaching in a logical step by step fashion by which my students can relate.
As a Sociology major and an accounting student at Longwood University, I was able to gain an understanding in a variety of areas from classes in business, sociology, anthropology, psychology, english, math and the sciences.
