Education, teaching in particular, gives individuals the opportunity to give back what they have received. It is communication on a broader level than just simply putting forth information to whomever chooses to accept it. I started my career in education before I set foot on a college campus, through a peer-tutoring program in my high school. Use of teaching materials is very important in my teaching. There are methods for teaching children to read and to do math that use materials sold by companies. One way to find out about teaching materials to use is to ask people who have home schooled.
I started substitute teaching in September 2001 in the Greenville County School District in Greenville, South Carolina. The Greenville County School District uses a computer system to contact teachers to substitute in schools which starts calling substitute teachers at 5:30am on the school day. I taught K-12 all subjects and special ed. In September through December 2005 I substituted at Duncan Elementry School in Duncan, South Carolina K-3rd grade. January through June 2006 I substitute taught at Easley High School in Easley, South Carolina all classes.

I will tailor my teaching to the individual student. One thing I've learned in my education program is that some kids learn visually while others learn auditorily, and so on. I believe in critical thinking; that is one skill that is lacking in school and in society generally. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching. I especially love the reaction I get when a student understands a difficult concept they have been struggling with. To help struggling students, we break down difficult concepts into smaller pieces and help them translate difficult scientific jargon and other vocabulary into "regular English". Discovering how these words are broken down allows the students to recognize and translate words in the future. Whenever possible and appropriate, students have hands-on experience in the topic they are studying, and I relate the subject to their own lives.
