A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored at DSCC and at MSU. I have taught at MSU. I have earned a bachelor degrees, BS in agriculture and MS in Agriculture, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math and science. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and laboratory reports, along with essays in many various areas of study. During the last eight years I have tutored students in animal science, psychology, the arts, mathematics, and sciences.
I do the notecard stlye of tutoring and I do the repetition type of studying. I love teaching our youth. I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a strong believer in teaching a student how to learn. By that I mean, students not only need to know a specific subject matter but also how to aquire and use knowledge. My background is mostly in math and it is what I enjoy teaching the most. I like to use manipulatives to teach. I think students learn better if they have a "hands-on" approach.
I am certified to teach in both California and Texas in a K-8th grdae classroom. In California I taught in a self contained 5th grade classroom. In Texas I taught 7th grade math. I also hold a supplementary credential in California for Business.

More About This Tutor...

My teaching style can best be described as varied! I believe that children learn in numerous ways, so as an educator it is my responsibility to provide multiple experiences - visual, oral, tactile, etc. A person walking by my classroom would see children smiling, working in groups, accomplishing projects, and would hear noise.
After graduating from Vanderbilt University I taught 5th grade for 2 years while working on my Master's at TSU. I then moved to the Knoxville area and taught K until my son was born in 2000. We then moved to Wisconsin where I taught in various after school programs until my 2 children were old enough for preschool. I then went back part time and taught 4 K until my 3rd child was born in 2005. Throughout this entire time I tutored various children ages 8 - 15 years if age.
