My primary goal is to help students understand the "why" of studies. "Why" do we look for differentials in calculus? "Why" do we describe imagery in poetry instead of just saying how we feel? "Why" do we enter compound keys in some SQL tables but not others? "Why" do we need a conclusion on our essay? If we understand why we do something, we are far more likely to remember how to do it. I also strive to keep the homework the work of the student. They do the work, I guide them to the correct (or at least best) answer. Students are more likely to remember how to complete the problem if they are in the driver seat, not the tutor.

I have worked with students of many different backgrounds, ages, and abilities. I love to help a student find that "a-ha" moment where he or she finally understands a concept that has been a struggle. I enjoy teaching new concepts or working with students to master a concept.

I immediately took an interest in the sciences and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-medicine. I also home schooled both my children from the time they were in grade school until they received their high school GEDs from a local community college.
