My comments on tutoring Anatomy : I would feel quite comfortable tutoring those taking high school Anatomy or Anatomy I (nursing pre-requisite), but not past that level.

I am a big proponent of the theory of multiple intelligences and believe that each student has certain styles of learning that work best for them. I aim to help students figure out how they learn best. Once they realize where their strengths are, they can incorporate the concept into all of their studies, not just the subject for which I happen to be tutoring them.

I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. There is not a best way to teach. Each child learns in a unique way for each subject. Some can learn easier if the lesson is put to music and they can learn a song or dance that embodies the knowledge. Others learn it if they can write it or color a picture of it. Involving all senses, smell and touch as well, can make lessons more concrete to the student. I have gained more patience and understanding with learners’ differences as I have aged and had more experience with the uniqueness of individuals.
