A Little Bit About Me...

I was an English teacher in China, and I am fluent in both English and Chinese. I can help tutor people who are dyslexic and people with learning disorders. I can teach basic math, typing, as well as reading and writing English. As my mother could not speak English well, I've had lots of experience helping her with reading, writing, typing, as well as how to use a computer. I have a B.A. and can work with people who are preparing for their GED or ASVAB.

My teaching style varies with student learning styles. Although drill may be appropriate for some skills, my preference is project or problem based methods that draw on the learner's experiences and interests. I work from students' current skill levels, provide challenging problems, model successful learning skills, encourage students' to express creativity and intuition, and employ formative and normative assessments. I firmly believe that more advanced mathemtaics can be taught to younger and more diverse students. I believe that all students, of all skill levels, can learn mathemtaics if creatively taught.
