I have greatly enjoyed my experience as a Substitute Teacher and Literacy Volunteer as I truly enjoy helping others. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been interested in teaching others, in particular, teaching children with special needs. The majority of my experience teaching is teaching children with special needs including many children with autism. I feel very strongly about the importance of a good education. Having a degree in English, I have much experience in using proper grammar, technical writing skills and creative writing skills. I have tutored students in the area of English, biology, history and some spanish.
I have always loved working with children. Through my experience as a special education instructor, I have learned children can learn in a variety of ways. I am a very patient listener and think that I empathize well with everyone. While student teaching I learned to pay attention to all of the students in a very diverse student body. I chose texts from a variety of backgrounds- the multicultural approach was both ideal and necessary in that setting. I then emphasized the similarities between the texts and the need for standardization in language use. One method which succeeded was my attempt to improve the students' vocabularies by breaking words into their most basic components; they learned to define words which they might not otherwise have recognized. As in the study of math, the key to studying language is to simplify.
