I attained a degree in Degree in Finance from Marquette in 1970. Since then, i have worked in Banking, Insurance, Federal Government Comptroller, and several non-profit environments. Also, experience in business management at a private elementary school. I very much enjoy tutoring, especially at the high school level. I take pride in being professional, yet patient. Lecturing as well as one-to one counsel is appropriate. Followup with parents is a focus for collaboration and sccess of the tutoring.

While I have not any direct teaching experience, save for helping my children with their homework, I can say that I have patience, an even-tempered demeanor, and the desire to not quit until the student understands the material being covered. My approach would be in the use of practical application of the subject matter. I have been in accounting and finance since my graduation from UW-Whitewater in 1985. I have worked in public accounting, manufacturing and in non-profit organizations. I believe am would be a good fit teaching high school accounting, college intro to accounting, intro to cost accounting, economics, or intro to finance. Other areas are dependent upon the subject matter. My work experience has also enabled me to be proficient using the MS Office suite, particularly Excel.

The hardest thing about teaching is determining how the individual student learns. I have found that all people learn differently so it is best to understand this process to make the teaching more effective. I like to challenge the individuals I tutor. I believe individuals perform best when they have to work hard for success. At the same time, I am easy-going, amiable and tend to get along with many different types of individuals. I graduated from UW-Madison with a Finance degree and my MBA degree with an Investment Management focus at UW-Milwaukee in December of 2009. I tutored for nearly two years while at UW-Madison and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have current knowledge of financial concepts as I am currently enrolled in school and I believe this current knowledge would be an asset in aiding a student learn some of the financial concepts out there.

I first identify the student's strengths and weaknesses, and try to come up with a way to teach the student in a way that they will understand. I believe patience is very essential to having a successful outcome with the student. I am well versed in math and finance, as well as writing. As a high school student, I successfully completed AP Calculus I and II, AP Physics, and AP Chemistry. I also took Calculus II for Engineers at Johns Hopkins University, as well as a variety of finance courses at Goizueta Business School. I also have excellent grammatical skills, as I am a former Editor-in-Chief of a law journal. I presently work as a law clerk, and writing for a judge is something I do every day. I'm qualified to be a Spanish tutor because I minored in Spanish at Johns Hopkins, and also studied abroad in Madrid, Spain in 2005.

I believe in a micro managing style of teaching when it comes to instructing an individual. Keeping tight controls in order to ensure that the person is understanding the information. However when it comes to a small group teaching is where my style will change to a more facilitated with group helping each other. As a regular part of my professional job duties I have also been responsible in training accounting and other staff in various new processes, procedures and technical developments. I have also taught various accounting and small business accounting/finance classes in the Associate Degree program of the Milwaukee Area Technical College. While working at Com-Tec I processed accounts payable, performed monthly reconciliations of the accounts that I was responsible for, assisted in month-end closing, and made adjusting entries when necessary. I go through all the concepts with the individual pertaining to what portion of statistics they are studying at that time. I will then walk them through a couple of examples demonstrating how to properly obtain the correct answer. I will follow that up by asking them to do a problem without any direct instruction from me. I will watch them work on the problem to assure they are working on it properly. If any mistakes are made I will politely point them out as the individual is working. Finally, I will ask them to work on problems completely on their own and I will check their answers when they are done. I feel the only way to learn statistics, or any math for that matter, is through repetition and working on a lot of problems.
