Learning's only effective if it's fun.

Thanks for reading my profile. I have tutored French and Spanish at my community college. I have conducted "baby groups" for children 6 mo. - 1 yr in a multi-lingual center for children where I worked in Moscow for three years. I have taught groups of adults English as a Second Language at Inlingua language school in DC. I have taught middle school Russian and Critical Thinking, and college first year Russian while in graduate school. I have worked with children ages 4-10 one-on-one in their homes on a freelance basis, during which time I managed multiple clients and did this full time for an incredibly satisfying profession. When it comes to teaching or tutoring, I find that it is necessary to craft a pedagogical style that will match the learning style of your student. Each student learns in a different way, whether visually, aurally, kinesthetically, subconsciously, or simply by rote. I find that it is necessary to try each option with all students. I feel that the trouble that many students may have is that they operate differently from the rest of their peers and simply need a different approach to learning material. I find that making the material more interesting is of vast importance as well, and I make learning and retention of information a high priority.

Teaching and working with children not only educates them but it educates myself in the process. I get to touch up on materials that the children are learning, as well as learn better ways to educate students. Patience is what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching. Children can become unfocused very easily. When children are distracted it may be very difficult to get them focused. Taking your time and making sure they refocus, can actually save time. I have taken statistics and gotten an A in the course and still have all course materials to give a general overview of statistics and how to use SPSS.
