I am an experienced classroom teacher and have been involved in education since I was 18 years old. I have worked supervising general chemistry teaching labs as well as an organic chemistry TA. I followed this experience by gaining my general education certification through the STEM program at UNM. This involved a year of teaching as an intern at a local middle school. Following this I have spent the last two years teaching Integrated Science, Chemistry and Physics all at the high school level. I have also been occupying myself with obtaining Master's Degrees in Special and General Education.

Special Education is one of my top subjects! I have worked with a number of different students with various diagnoses including autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and more. I don't believe in"learning disabilities"because it indicates one is "unable" to learn. This is not the case. Students learn in their own way and I get to help discover how my students learn along with them. This is the advantage of being a tutor rather than a classroom teacher of 25 Students. Teachers must provide the teaching methods that help promote the learning process in the majority of Students. 20/25 may benefit and the rest are labled "disabled"

I am a licensed Social worker with tutoring experience in and out of college. I have the most experience in tutoring Algebra and other math. I have a student now that I am helping with AP English who has dyslexia. I enjoy watching her grammar skills increase and her overall understanding of the concepts develop. I am great with any age individual and have the patience it takes to work with any kind of student (special needs included).
I believe that people learn the best when they understand the meaning and logic behind what they are learning. When a student can see a pattern develop they develop an understanding that can be universally applied to many different areas of study and life circumstances. Learning is different then memorizing. It is especially important to understand the concepts behind the subject matter when planning continue in a similar learning subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been drawn to children and have enjoyed being with and teaching them. Before working in preschool, my teaching style was unrefined, and based largely on a general paternalistic instinct. My experience at the preschool taught me the value of coordinated language use in dealing with different students in different situations between care-givers. I learned how to be very direct with students while still maintaining compassion and understanding. I respect children's need for expression, but I also know the importance of rules and boundaries. Within those boundaries, though, I believe that kids have a lot to teach older generations as we teach them. I am hands on. I am very parient and to not get frustrated easily. I do not have an age preference becuase I enjoy working with all age groups. I am personaly continuing with my Masters in September of this year. I cannot express how important education is to further your ability to care and provide for your family. I love working with children on this subject as well. I have taken MANY communication and diversity/ethics classes and have a firm understanding of how to approach and communicate with people on many educational and social levels. I LOVE to communicate and teach how to better communicate with others.
