I work to identify each student's strengths and to build upon these, while also noting areas for improvement and tailoring lessons and assignments designed to address these areas. Because people learn in several different ways, I strive to individualize instructional approaches based on my perception of what works best for each student. I am unfailingly patient and polite. I believe people work best when they are challenged and encouraged.
I taught English as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Korea, then received a Master's Degree in teaching and worked in Mexico, Japan, Iran, and the United States, teaching and also coordinating a bilingual program for refugees with the Tacoma Public Schools. A Little Bit About Me...

I have done much sales and customer service work, as well as teaching. I think listening is key, recognizing the humanity in each person, and relating to it while communicating. In teaching, setting expectations is important... expectations of what the goal is; what they will learn, and then adapting it to the abilities of that individual. Again, as I said, I think listening is key, and empathizing with the individual. Of course you have to set standards, such as homework expected, and tests (as a teacher).
I earned a BS in Business (CIS) with a cumulative 3.4 GPA and membership in two National Honor Societies. Courses included Chemistry, many Social Studies classes, and calculus-based Chem Physics. After graduating from High School I attended the University of Utah for 1 year. After that year I was drafted into the US Marine Corps and my education was put on hold as I served my country and raised a family. After all of my children graduated from college I returned to finish my studies. This past year I have worked as a substitute teacher and I have taken on a few short term assignments teaching language arts and English as a second language with Albuquerqu Public Schools. I speak Spanish fluently and I am highly qualified and certified in Social Studies, Language Arts, Science, and I have an English as a second language endorsement.
