A Little Bit About Me...

I find it thoroughly enjoyable to work with children. My time teaching in Peru has definitely confirmed that for me! I am patient, responsible, and easy going. I think that knowledge can be gained in many ways, and it doesn't have to just be from a book or someone lecturing to you. Through getting to know the students, I try to find creative ways, such as games, songs, and crafts to help the student gain an even better understanding of the subject. I feel it is very important for the student to feel relaxed and confident when they are with me. To this end, I always give a few minutes of each lesson to personal contact, and chat with them a little about what is happening in their lives. I also encourage laughter and light-heartedness. I stress that it is OK to make mistakes. If they are having trouble grasping a concept I tell them it is because I have not explained it correctly and ask them to bear with me until I get it right. I use a lot of encouragement and praise, but also insist on keeping high standards. I want them to feel good about themselves when they leave me.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching at a very young age. I began my own music lesson company which taught basic level of piano, guitar, saxophone and voice lessons out of my house before I began high school. After achieving my certificate of proficiency in Spanish from Hamline I then began to also privately tutor Spanish. I also have earned my TEFL/TESOL certificate and will eventually go abroad and teach English overseas.
I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I like to have students keep some sort of record of their practice time, as well as their progress. I also am a strong believer in making learning fun, so I try to listen to my students' needs and pay attention to their learning styles so I can create activities that they will not only find educational but fun as well.
