I was in a program called "Study Buddies" all four years at high school. I would devote a couple afternoons a week tutoring middle school students (and eventually high school students). During this time I would help them study for tests, complete assigned work, or help clarify any material that the student didn't understand. Also, I helped these students develop their writing and grammar skills. Starting my junior and senior year of high school, I began "one on one" tutoring with selected individuals. Study buddies was a program where several students would show up and the helpers would assist accordingly, but when I began tutoring I specifically met with them at assigned times. Hidden Talents Tutoring

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a degree in computer science, I started tutoring in the Academic Skills Center at UWEC and discovered this was a hidden talent. My instinctive use of the Socratic method earned praise from the director right away. My responsibilities included teaching, preparing learning materials for basic reading, personal finance, and vocational skills, implementing behavior programs, supervising 7 staff members, and writing quarterly lesson plans and progress reports.
