My comments on tutoring Desktop Publishing : My undergraduate degree is in Visual Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design and Photography.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I teach the foundation and build upon that based upon what is relevant in a particular field today. I also include student-centered teaching strategies. Try to customize to students intrest in order to keeep attention and make as entertaining as possible. Every child sees things from different eyes. I just teach them how to look. I know that as a student I would hear one explanation that all of a sudden made things so clear and seem so simple. I try to find this for every individual student.
I have helped students from my church for the past eight years in math science and english. I have also worked with my sisters first grade students in math. I enjoy working with youth. It is extremely rewarding to watch a child when that " i get moment" happens and their face lights up with pride, happiness and a sense of accomplishment.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have learned as a father of a home schooler that children learn in different ways. Some subjects hold more interest and are easier to learn. When students need to learn subjects that they do not find so interesting, creative ways must be used to make the class interesting. I especially enjoy finding and putting into practice those ways that will help a child to learn such as a rewards system, learning by touching and doing, and other things that will make the class interesting.
