The following year, I was asked to teach science along with several other subjects in the junior high school. I thoroughly enjoyed this position for three years until the birth of our son. During my years teaching junior high, I had the pleasure of tutoring several students in math, reading, and study skills. I have been blessed with the honor of homeschooling my two boys for the past six years. My older son has dyslexia, and I began tutoring him with the Barton reading and spelling system this year. The foundation of my academic experience starts with Mrs. Cox, a teacher for over 30 years and a mother of four — my mother. It is through her guidance that I have acquired the patience, tact, and discipline necessary for learning and instructing. I do not favor one particular teaching method as each individual learns differently. That being said, I try to provide an array of options for the student.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Lindenwood University. As a sophomore I was chosen as one of Lindenwood University’s History Tutors, a position I maintained until graduation in 2009. I prefer a "hands on" approach in a one-on-one environment. I have had success with classrooms of up to 120 students, but I prefer the individual monitoring. It yields the best results. I have tutored remedial reading at the Elementary level for a tutoring service out of Phoenix, AZ for the Washoe County School System in Reno. While in my undergraduate study, I tutored fellow students who were struggling with beginning music theory. Another classmate and I taught classes in 4 levels of theory for up to 120 students while at U of P-West Chester.
