My belief system says that ALL students need to be set up for success, as success breeds success. Throughout my teaching experience, I have found that students need a different model of learning from the 'one-size-fits-all' delivery system, which requires that all children learn the same thing at the same time regardless of what their individual needs are. The best way to describe my approach to teaching would be 'complex instruction', which falls under the umbrella of 'differentiated instruction'. Complex instruction is a strategy that was developed to address the various ranges of academic abilities while being culturally and linguistically heterogeneous. A Little Bit About Me...

My love of reading and writing has led me to excel in 2 languages. An English major at Carleton College, I mastered the art of putting thoughts on paper to persuade, compare, or explicate; as well as how to read for meaning. Later at the Sorbonne in Paris, I transferred these talents to French. I have since taught and tutored reading, writing, and speaking in both languages in the U.S. and abroad.
My teaching style is active and enthusiastic. I show students clues and shortcuts in all sorts of subjects so that learning can be fun and even easy. I am tolerant and patient, while at the same time I request diligence and assiduousness. I revel in the success of my students, thanks to their efforts and hard work. As a Language Arts teacher, I am well versed in many conceptual approaches to learning and mastering reading and writing. Teaching for 11 years in deaf education, I have enjoyed seeing a growth in my students’ math academic progress in middle school and high school level. Most children who are deaf have a delay in language learning. A deaf child who uses sign language, English is not their first language. Math, reading, and writing are the three academic subjects that require special goals with appropriate lesson plans to enhance each student’s weakness in specific areas in mathematics.
