...Give yourself an edge…

My work through Lincoln Public Schools prepared me to be the best private tutor I can be. Working with students one-on-one in almost every grade level taught me how to assist each unique individual in a way that suits them best. Tailoring my teaching style to fit the needs of each of my students is vital as we all have different ways of learning. Many students began working with me with no hope and a failing grade and after some time, they had newly found confidence in themselves and their F had transformed into an A. Math and helping others succeed have always been passions of mine, so the fact that I get to do the two at the same time brings so much joy to my life.

More About This Tutor...

While I was going to college, I was employed by the University of Nebraska as a tutor for students in calculus and calculus based physics. I learned to teach students who learn by different methods and make the subjects relatable and understandable. I have a high degree of education as well as experience using the math and physics I learned in my job as a mechanical engineer.
I use strategic questions to help guide students to the right answer without giving the answer directly to them. This allows the student to develop their own sense of logic when approaching problems so that when test time comes, they will be able to ask themselves questions similar to what I ask during tutoring sessions and help figure out the answer step by step. My style of tutoring will help students develop their logic and problem solving skills, so that even if a new type of problem is presented, they ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After taking one and a half years of guitar training, I believe that I can offer my students with the materials they need to play their favorite songs with the chords and strumming, as well as learning and coming up with new solos based on the theories that I teach them.
I first teach my student what the strings are in standard tuning, letting them know what they're playing on. And then I'll teach them the basic chords. The next step of the teach program is to teach them notes as well as other chords. After they get the chords and the notes progression, I'll teach them the scales and solos.

As an undergraduate, I used to be frustrated with the idea that a teacher "knows his stuff but can't teach well". For me,the true proof of knowledge is to be able to communicate it, especially to those who have a different background. This personal philosophy drove me into a state of personal inquiry that is perhaps different from other teachers or students approach- studying with a view to explaining the concept to someone of limited knowledge in the area of discipline
Start with what the student knows and gradually into the new and unknown material. This way the student is guided seamlessly into the unknown using what he knows as a "bait". Math, and calculus for that matter, is best mastered by practice. As such, I prefer to guide the student into problem-solving immediately after the concepts are taught. This way misconceptions and erroneous interpretations are exposed thr ... read more

I graduated with a Biopsychology degree or otherwise known as Behavioral Neuroscience. This degree enabled me to study organic and inorganic chemistry, biology (immunology, biochemistry etc.), math (statistics, calculus) and 1 year of physics. My favorite class, however, was a psychology class called learning and behavior. That class has honed my teaching skills and I enjoyed using those skills while tutoring adolescents in a wide variety of subjects, high school teenagers prep for the ACT exam, working as a teaching assistant for organic chemistry and tutoring an autistic child.
My teaching style varies with skill level. Some children need reinforcement schedules while others just need help puting their foot in the right direction. I let my students know that learning is a team effort, instilling that they are not in this alone and that their success is exciting for myself as well ... read more

I see teaching as a dialog between teacher and student and adjust the speed and depth of my teaching to best help the student succeed. Most importantly I want to the student to leave with a greater understanding of the subject than when they entered.
I taught recitation for Honors Differential Equations, Differential Equations, Calculus 3, Calculus 2 and Introduction to Computer Science as an undergraduate at Georgia Tech and physics and astronomy labs as a graduate student at the University of Tennessee. I was consistently rated highly as a teacher by students.

Every student has different needs and learns in a unique way, so it is important for me to teach in both visual and more concrete forms depending on the pupil. In my opinion, being a teacher is more about being a continual learner than it is about banking knowledge into the mind of a subject, and as a constructivist I look to build a lasting relationship with each of the people I tutor; I feel this approach is both more rewarding for myself as the teacher, but also more productive for the student as it is akin to my personal philosophy that a pupil "does not care what you know until they know that you care."
Mathematics and Statistics are areas of study that have followed me throughout my life, from competition in MathCounts in Kansas and finishing 25th in the state, to scoring 35's twice on the Mathematics section of the ACT twice, but more importantly in tutoring my peers and oth ... read more
