My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : I was on the journalism team all four years of high school, serving as managaing editor, and sports editor, and was the only writer ot be granted free-lance editorial writing. I tutored at the mathew dickey's boys club working with grade school students ranging from the 2nd-4th grade. I would essentially go over all of their subjects with them and ensure that they not only completed their assignments but understood the material. In college at Iowa State University I tutored in both Anatomy & Physiology and Biochemistry. Although I have not worked specifically with students in need of writing skills, essay assignments - I was in journalism and wrote for the high school newspaper all four years and served as managing editor and sports editor. My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : Provide assistance with deciding on a topic, how to outline levels of suspens and how to organize characters and identify types and how each plays a role in creating intrigue, and then pull the characters together for quality climax.

I teach each person on an individual level. There are several reasons behind this. Some of them are: people have different strengths and weaknesses, people learn at quicker/slower rates than others, some individuals are more adept at one subject matter than another, and the motivation of the individual varies greatly from person to person. I try to teach by example. I also believe in constructive criticism and use positive reinforcement. I always try to give examples and "paint a picture" so that the person clearly understands the subject being taught. I graduated from Columbia University with a BA in English and political science and spent the four years following graduation working on the communications team for Mayor Michael Bloomberg in New York City. In that capacity I supervised a staff of five full time employees and a variable number of interns.
