Phonics/Reading teacher certified in the Montessori Method

I'm a certified Montessori teacher having completed 500 hours supervised teaching. I've worked 11 years with children 1 1/2-3, and 3-6 teaching phonics,reading, and independence. My style is casual using objects and pictures to reinforce beginning sounds. Once the child has learned as few as three sounds, we are able to start reading words. I volunteered at the Ocean County Library writing center for four years and helped my peers construct, organize, and layout essays. I also proofread, edited, and helped in the creative process of their essays. I am curreently working part-time at Ocean County Library (Lakewood Branch) tutoring k-12 students after school in the S.M.A.R.T kids program.
I focus on starting small and helping the student develop on their own. For example, when I teach how to write a strong essay, we write many drafts of an introduction. Then, we write many drafts of body paragraphs. Last, we would focus on writing a conclusion. Then, by working seperately on all of an essay's parts, the combined product is much stronger. The art of teaching is similiar to building a house: you start with an idea, then a foundation, and finally the framework.
