During my 35-year of teaching, I spent 30 years teaching everything from Alg. 1, Geometry, Alg. 2, Trig., Statistics. I was also a math department chair for 5+ years. In that capacity I wrote curriculum for local and county districts. I also lead my department and county in choosing texts. I worked on committees at the county level in training teachers. After my retirement, I realized that I missed teaching and working with young people and helping them prepare for ACT tests and classroom assignments. As a graduate student, I worked as an Academic Adviser for student-athletes at The University of Akron. I have worked tutoring at-risk students in a cooperative environment. My duties included supervising and leading study sessions, helping students plan and organize time effectively, as well as implementing study and test taking strategies. I like working with young people to challenge them to accomplish something they did not think was possible. I prefer to ask them questions and see what they can come up with. While attaining my genetics degree at Ohio State, I worked at the OSU Chimpanzee Center. After graduating, I started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Weights and Measures division. It was my job to try to "trick" the scales before they could become available for commercial use. I moved back home to Coshocton when I got married. I quickly found a job teaching adults within our county's GED program. I easily became the math and science "guru" with my background and began getting my Masters in Education from Muskingum University.
