A Little Bit About Me...

I have had one year experience as a paraprofessional in a Preschool classroom setting. I have also been a substitute teacher for K-8th grades. I taught for a year as a Kinderkamp teacher. This was a supplemental class for kindergarten. I worked with the kindergarten teachers to create my lessons.I have my Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Linguistics. I went back to school years later to obtain an Elementary Educaion teaching certificate with a Master's Degree. My three teaching areas include Language Arts, Social Studies, and Early Childhood. I recently have spent the last six months in the Head Start Program as a center teacher. We prepare them for kindergarten. I have taught all grade levels. I currently have a BA with a concentration in K-8 education. Due to online classes, I have written hundreds of research and essay papers using APA style although I have helped my son use MLA which I can write in effectively.
Teaching mainly K-8 on a consistent schedule, I have learned that some students need one-on-one teaching. Being the third teacher in Head Start, I had time to work with individual students. I went to school at EMU with the intention of getting a doctorate in Physics, to teach at the college level. I ended up getting a job in IT at the University, and found I enjoy this just as much. While a student, I volunteer tutored for the Society of Physics Students, and I tutor all the student employees I have when they are taking physics classes. I love teaching, and the students that I have tutored have excelled under my supervision.
I try my best to make the student figure things out on their own, by giving simple guiding questions or comments. I do not like to simply do the problems for them, as I find most people do not learn well this way. I am patient and empathetic, and I understand what it is like to approach a problem from the position of a student who is confused or unsure. I try to give them the tools to understand basic problem solving and critical thinking.
