I believe all children are born with the same amount of human potential. However, I’m disheartened by what I’ve witnessed in Mississippi’s public schools: that many children are failing to read at grade level. They are often “left behind.” My approach to teaching is driven by my belief that all children can learn if given the cognitive stimulation coupled with a nurturing, learning environment. I know that children are eager to know, understand, and discern. I believe teachers should not disseminate facts; instead they should cultivate the desire for knowledge. I have been a teacher for the past five years. I have taught Language Arts and History. For the past two years I have taught 7th and 8th grade, but I have also taught 9th and 5th grade. Outside of my career, I have tutored my own children, currently ages 11 and 9.I have also been an Intervention Coach and tutor. I excell at individual and small group tutoring.
Determining the learning styles of individual students is important to me. I adjust and accomodate my approach based on how students respond and learn. I love to assist individuals of all ages. However, I love working with children simply because everything children learn while they are young, will remain with them when they are older. I am currently a senior at University of Mississippi. I graduate May 08, 2010 with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Psychology.
