My comments on tutoring Computer : I've used Microsoft Office regularly, and I've also received training in GIS mapping software and watershed modelling software.

I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the most, and I ended up getting so much more out of the course. I figure that, if a student likes the teacher, he or she will pay more attention and have a deeper respect for the teacher. The teacher then can use this trust to push the student a little more, intellectually. I find that is what works best for me.
I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the ... read more

My teaching style is one in which I strive to engage students in the subject by both instructing and challenging them to think on their own. I also strive to accomplish this goal in such a manner that the student experiences the fun that is a part of learning, but one that also emphasizes the importance of the learning process as well. In all of my tutoring and teaching experiences, I communicate how critical good study habits are: self-discipline; finding a quiet place to study; punctuality; attention to detail; following the rules; etc.

I create lessons that benefit from a student's best learning styles. Most of today's education is taught using the auditory method of lecturing, which is sadly the least favored learning style for most people. I can combine auditory, visual, physical, individual, and expressive teaching methods to create an effective learning experience. I learn a student's favored learning styles to customize lessons and to help students work on their strengths and weaknesses. My understanding of the important connections between science and the world around us will spark a curiosity that will inspire future learning. That curiosity and excitement coupled with my high expectations will motivate students to achieve in high school, college, and beyond.

As a graduate student at the University of Texas I was a teaching assistant for organic chemistry lab for two years (4 semesters, 7 lab sections).
Each larger question can subsequently be broken down into a set of smaller questions. These smaller questions are the building blocks of knowledge a student will acquire in classes and it is the ability to put them all together in a coherent manner that allows them to solve the problems at hand. I focus on showing students why a correct answer is correct and guide them with questions so that they can cultivate the correct answer on their own. I learned the importance of building rapport and tailoring my tutoring approach to match students’ learning styles. I am easy going and I like to make the learning as interesting and fun as possible. While earning my BA in economics from The University of Texas, I also completed all my pre-med courses. This has provided me with a strong background in mathematics, social sciences, and natural sciences. I have always had a strong aptitude for integrating concepts from different disciplines and exploring how they relate to one another. This skill is useful when explaining new ideas to other students in terms that they can relate to.
Attitude is the biggest obstacle when trying to learn something new. I try to make the learning process as fun and interesting as possible. When a student is struggling, I believe it is vital to build their confidence towards success. It is important to not make them feel overwhelmed, but to show them how to conquer a problem step by step. I can help provide the tools that your child needs to realize his/her ability.
