I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up. My teaching "style" is very open--I will have an outline and while I am presenting I will sometimes ask for examples from the students to help get us through the outline together. You can't speak AT them; you have to involve the students in what you are teaching them.

I have tutored as part of community service projects as well as in service-learning classes. During my class on the Latino Immigration Experience in the United States, I taught in an English as a Second Language teacher to high school freshmen and sophomores. I really enjoyed the experience of helping their teacher relate to her students by aiding in lesson planning and other aspects of the classroom experience.
