A Little Bit About Me...

I have taken advanced coursework in many subjects, including math, biology, and English, and I have studied French for many years as well. While preparing for my degree in journalism, I was hired by The Daily Universe, BYU's student newspaper, to help students in the newswriting class with their pieces. Through one-on-one sessions with these students, I was able to see great improvement in their writing styles. Throughout my pre-college and university career, I have been praised for my writing ability as well as my knowledge of grammar, spelling, and expressive techniques. I do not have a degree. I have been instructed by the teachers I have worked with. My style is to let the student know that they are to be attentive, polite, and to try their best to do the lessons. I tell them that I am there to help them and I do encourage them by rewarding with appropriate items. I have been raising a great grandchild, now 11 years of age. I adopted him at age 24 months. He has been diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, and Emotionally Challenged. I have learned a great deal working with the schools, teachers, PSR's and counselors. Earning a BS in Economics from BYU was challenging and rewarding. To excel in such a competitive field of study required advanced skills in math, statistics, and logic. In addition, having studied the Russian language for 4 years (2 in high school and 2 in college), lived in Russia for 2 years, and tutored students of the language, I am uniquely qualified to tutor students interested in the Russian language. I enjoy watching students grasp the scientific method as it is something that comes naturally to most people if put in the right context. Science is rewarding to teach because it incorporates other disciplines like math. I often receive comments about my effective teaching style.
