Sign Language! Special Needs! Literacy!

I have been a classroom teacher and a tutor for children, teens and adults who are deaf, hearing impaired, speech/language impaired, social/emotional impaired, cognitive delay, autistic, ADHD, etc. I have also taught early childhood children from birth. I can communicate using sign language and cued speech. I have experience teaching dyslexic children, teens and adults using the Orton-Gillingham philosophy. I am Pro-Literacy certified and I am a STAR certified trainer.

Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.

I don't use a lesson plan or guided lessons, I let the kids lead. They usually know what they need help on and if they can figure out what they are having problems with, then everything usually starts making sense. I usually keep my laptop with me, I refer to it if there is something I can't answer or figure out how to start drawing. I don't rely on it, but usually use it as a reference tool.
I've never actually tutored someone, but I am very good at relating with younger kids and High Schoolers. I was in band from 8th grade to 12th grade where I participated in the Front Ensemble section with keyboards, vibraphones, marimbas, xylophones and various other instruments. I love working with children of all ages. I really like elementary age children. I have a hands-on approach to education. I want kids to get their hands into activities so that they may retain things longer. Now I do realize that not every student is hands-on. That is the responsibility of a teacher or tutor to find out what works for each student and set the envioronment for each learning experience.
I taught public school for 4 years before getting a masters degree in Religious Education with a Concentration in Childhood Education.
