After earning my BS in Elementary Education at Western Carolina, I became a tutor, part time assistant in Jackson County Schools (as an assistant in two ESL classrooms-one at a high school level and in an elementary/middle school classroom) and as a Lowes Sales Associate part time. I later became a fifth grade teacher at Cherokee Elementary on the Reservation. I understand that any child can run into problems with schoolwork. I try to find out why the child is having a problem before trying to help them. Did he miss something and fall behind? Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions. I feel it is important for the learner to understand that there is a reason for making the effort to learn each subject.
