I earned my degree in Human Services from Virginia Wesleyan College, after graduating I returned to Massachusetts and took several classes towards a Masters degree at Anna Maria College. During this time I worked as a substitute teacher for the Spencer/East Brookfield school district and Leicester schools. I was also employed by the Spencer schools as an in home tutor working with the school, teachers and students unable to attend school due to injury or behavioral difficulty in the schools. I had students in all grades 1 through 12 and in a wide range of subjects and held this position for 4 years until I moved out of state.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have not yet become a classroom teacher. I have already applied to summer school programs throughout the state. As a coach, I feel that it is essential to inspire students/my student athletes. If you can ingite a desire to learn in students, I believe everything falls into place after that. I enjoy placing my student athletes into small groups to discuss for certain periods of time, and then I like to spend the rest of the time talking to them as a whole. After every session I coach, I have my student athletes write me a note after every lesson explaining to me what they have learned. I believe this is imperative, to make sure that the student learns and understands something new every single day. In the classroom I rely on traditional lecture, supplemented by Powerpoint presentations, animations, and lists and diagrams on the white board. I usually assign a research paper. In the last few semesters I've implemented through Blackboard some online testing, as well as tutorial "homework" quizzes, where the students get feedback directing them to coverage of particular sections of the text. I always try to make students aware of how the detailed, technical concepts of the moment fit into the "big picture," making references both to material previously covered and to material yet to come.
