A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education/Child Development (ZA Endorsement). From that point on, I subbed in various elementary schools, including Rockford and Comstock Park. I obtained a kindergarten position at St. Adalbert School in the fall of 1996 and taught there for four years. I then transferred to St Paul the Apostle School in 2000, where for the past 10 years I have taught first grade. I earned my Master's Degree in Reading in the year 2003, which made me qualified to be a reading specialist.
I hold high expectations for all my students to achieve the best that they can do. I am aware that there are various learning styles in the classroom, especially with first grade! A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching children and working with children's choirs. I had some very fine education classes at Aquinas. I'm very intuitive with children. While you must objectively assess the childs level, you must also be intuitive. The teacher has to tap into the innate knowledge and then approach the method of teaching in the way that child can hear you. I am 47 and a mother of an 11 yr. old. I am patient and kind with children, but overall, what comes through is my whimsical, comical, spontaneous nature. Children take to it because I'm also intelligent as opposed to "clownish". I'm also fairly firm. They have to practice and I know how to motivate them for that. I have high standards for children.

I care deeply about the next generation and wish to impart on them a desire to learn. I have seen a student change from a surly individual to one who participated in class and became more consistent in homework. I believe that respect, encouragement, and care can motivate a child to go beyond his best and succeed not only in school, but also in life.
