Finance is one of my top subjects!

My last position in public accounting was as a Senior Tax Manager. With Courtaulds Coatings I was the US Tax Manager, I prepared the income, franchise, excise, GST tax returns, managed the staff for sales tax preparation and compliance as well as managed all the audit activities for each. I managed the risk management for the US coatings, fibers and aerospace divisions. While owning my own consulting business I managed all the accounting and tax (individual principals, corporate, sales and payroll) activities for a group of clients owning 5 business in 2 states. Additionally, I had several other accounting and tax clients covering a variety of engagements. In the last 3 years I have had only a hand full of individual tax clients as my duties at Humana were full-time. As CFO of Oaks Health I was responsible for all financial and accounting functions of a 4 division consolidated m ... read more

Young inexpensive tutor with modernized teaching strategies

Currently a student pursuing a Master's in Accounting and my CPA. I am a double major in Business Administration and Accounting from Transylvania University. I have worked with elementary aged students since I was about 16 years old and I have now progressed into tutoring high school and college students.
By working with elementary students I have exhibited that I am capable of vast patience, so I am willing to work as long as the student would require. I teach every student different, so my initial goal would be to learn about the student and find out their favorite methods of instruction.

I have a recent Bachelor's in Accounting, as well as 15+ years of accounting experience in both private and non-profit settings. While working at Thornhill Education Center, I had the opportunity to work with students and help teach GED classes. My main focus was math. I also had the opportunity to teach a level 1 accounting class for community education.
I don't think I have really developed a "unique style" by only teaching a year or so. I am a very patient person and I really like to see the "sparkle" in a students eye, when they truly understand something for the 1st time. I like to explain a concept and then give the student a problem and see if they get it. If not, I will go over as many times necessary...until they understand the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been involved as a Senior Financial Analyst for many years within many industries. Additionally, I currently teach at the collegiate level. I teach Corporate Finance and Business Courses. I want to teach more, hence the reason I am contacting Advanced Learners.
Professionally speaking, nothing gives me more joy than seeing the look of pleasure on a student's face once they understand a concept. I challenge students to think "beneath the surface" and not just accept what they see in front of them.

More About This Tutor...

I have always been a good teacher. I scored very well on the SAT exams, and I have extensive tutoring experience. I scored in the upper 10 percentile on the Mathmatics portion of the SATs. I also have been studying non stop for the CPA exam. I would love to pass on knowledge to someone else. Tutoring is rewarding.
Great Question. I have been in classes where I found learning a challenge. This is what makes me unique as a teacher. I build a relationship with the student. I do my best to not only explain the material, but how they can possibly use it in the future. I also have the best patience. I will go over something over and over again, searching in my own mind for a different to present the material so it sticks.

More About This Tutor...

I have a love of learning and teaching and it shows in my classes. I have tutored my 11 year old daughter in math for the last 3 years. This year we are doing pre-algebra. I believe in evaluating a student from what they know and then see if I can teach them any ways to shorten what they do or try to bring it up or down to their level of understanding. Each learner is different so your style must be flexible. I believe in celebrating our wins and exploring our opportunities. My goal is to get the learner to a level where they are confident and comfortable in the material that they are learning.
I have earned two degrees in business administration. I have 20 years of practical business experience to go with my education. I have a very good grasp of high school and college algebra, and business calculus. I have had to write a master's thesis as well as many papers throughout ... read more

Here is Some Good Information About Finance Tutoring

Whether a college student is taking Principles of Finance as a an undergraduate to fulfill their basic degree requirements or as a prerequisite to higher levels of learning within a College of Business, it is the foundation for a general understanding within the banking, investments, and insurance industries. Finance is used by individuals (personal finance), by governments (public finance), by businesses (corporate finance), as well as by a wide variety of organizations including schools and non-profit organizations. Each type of entity incorporates and utilizes the concepts of Finance on a regular basis: financial planning, financial assets, financial instruments, etc. Some of the items a student can expect to be discussed in a beginning level finance course are: financing business, consumers, and government activity; stocks, bonds, real estate, and financial markets; risk; insurance; inflation; cash and income management; capital accumulation and appreciation. Students continuing to pursue a degree in Finance may take the following courses: Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Investments Strategies, Fund Management, Financial Markets, Survey of Business Finance, International Finance, and more. Not only are students of finance challenged with the amount of new concepts to learn, most of the courses require a strong background in mathematics. Any student not well prepared for these courses is urged to seek assistance immediately. Once a student begins to fall behind in a finance class, it is hard to catch-up without some extra help. It is important to gain the help of a professional within the field. Advanced Learners will match a student with a tutor who has the exact experience and knowledge the student needs.
