Algebra I is one of my top subjects!

Whether it's Musical help or Mathematical help that's needed, I like to realize the difficulties students are having. Then, together with them, I'll break down the problem, finding the source of confusion or difficulty they're having. Then start from the very beginning of the lesson they're learning, reteaching as though there was never any difficulties at all. I'll make sure students learn and understand, only to develop the possible ability to help others as though they never had any difficulties.
Throughout all my years in school, I was a Choir student. I was in my school's top varsity choirs and took a few years of music theory. I would help other students prepare for competitions, or simply help them with other things, whether it was vocal issues or things like reading music. I know much about both Classical Training and Contemporary Training. Also, I tutored many classmates ... read more

Have been working on my Bachelors in mathematics while working full time. I should finish in about a year. I have taken all lower level math and all calculus classes. A Little Bit About Me...

I like to break things down into baby steps. However, my teaching style will change according to how each student learns the easiest.
I am hoping to tutor students from k-8th grade because I know I have more than enough qualification to help them succeed. Plus, I have worked as a bible studies and piano teacher at my church with students in that range. I also have enough tutoring and academic experience to be able to tutor these students. For ~3 years I was a tutor for students learning English as a second language (for I speak English and Spanish) at Reedley College. I helped them with basic reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar, etc., much like what students within k-8th grade learn. Furthermore, I acquired a well rounded education by earning an Associates in General Studies, and this helped me become knowledgeable in a wide array of subjects. This, I'm sure can help me be an ... read more

Algebra I is one of my top subjects! I love math. Algebra I is my favorite math.

I have been a tutor for over four years. I enjoy tutoring and teaching a variety of subjects to whoever wants to learn. Learning for the sake of learning is one of the most important things I have learned in college and that is how I apply myself to tutoring. School should not be about just memorization; it should be about learning for the sake of learning.
I tutor not for facts, but for concepts and how everything fits into the "big picture."

I have worked with many groups of children from grades k-12. My main focus is working with elementary students. Most of my experience is working with grades k-6. My number one field is math. I'm more concerned in helping students with math because this is usually the field were most students are having trouble. I've been helping many children with their math including friends and family members. At the moment I'm working with students from grades k-2 and helping them understand the basics of math. I'm also bilingual and i use to help junior high students understand the basics of Spanish.

Educator for 17+ years seeking to help with our tomorrow!

I'll be honest. My "students" from the past have told me that during the time when I was actually sitting down and tutoring/working with them, they didn't even notice that they were actually doing the work. What I do when I try to make the "students" learn is to make them see what the books are trying to say to them through what we see through our eyes, in our world, every day. For example, if the book says: 7 - x = 4, I would be telling the child/adult, "Imagine if you had 7 dollars in your hand." I would then ask them, "How many do I need to take away (subtract) for you to have 4 dollars?" When working with the lower kids, I even use the actual objects and lay them on tables in front of me and show to them so they don't have to use their imagination to figure it out. Or if the page has picture on it, just cross them out if subtracting, or draw more if adding.

Hi! My name is Andrew Hoover and I started tutoring Mathematics/Science during my sophomore year in High School. Since then, I have continued to help others within my classes up until I reached community college. It was in 2008 that I became a certified tutor for Fresno City College, where I have been ever since. I tutor a wide range of subjects, from algebra to philosophy (Symbolic Logic) and even biology/chemistry. I have also held several workshops on various topics spanning study skills to subjects I have mentioned previously.
I prefer teaching/tutoring in a way that I actually draw the answer out of the student, whether immediate or prolonged. Another method I frequently employ is actually having the student "teach" step by step the process in solving any particular question, in which I have received quite a bit of positive feedback on. If I do come across a question eithe ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is perhaps not as Socratic as I would prefer. I first elucidate the principles being considered, and then use a practical means to illustrate and work with that principle. I like to have the student learn to derive what is being taught for themselves. That way the material will stay with them. Grounding the material being learned in some real-life experience makes knowledge meaningful and useful. That is what I endeavor to achieve.
While pursuing my Master's degree, I taught several sections on Civil Engineering principles. I also held office hours to tutor students in any other classwork where they were in need of assistance. Subjects ranges from physics to structural mechanics to hydrology to fluid mechanics.
