15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have been tutoring for over 15 years both in students homes or at public locations such as coffee shops or the public library. My education and experience are broad. I was educated at "Ivy League" level schools and purposefully educated myself in a large variety of the humanities, which in essence all tie together. Basic courses up through most High School material outside of the Humanities are not difficult. Actually, while my education has been primarily in the Humanities, the material I see the most in tutoring is Algebra and Geometry!
I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. I have a good rapport with my student and have had several that have told me that I am the best teacher they have ever had(which didn't hurt my ego!!) I also have a good sense of humor whic ... read more

I truly enjoy working with students of all ages. It doesn't matter what they don't know because I believe anyone can be taught anything, at least as long as you have the right teacher and materials at your disposal. I believe students are like little sponges. They're taking in everything around them. Obviously, if you fill their heads with garbage, they will learn garbage. However, if you fill their heads with quality information, you explain it in a way that they understand, and you make it fun for them to learn, then they will learn everything you're trying to teach. There are thousands of educators, but only a few real teachers who can get a message across in such a way that the student doesn't just do the work, they UNDERSTAND what they're doing and why. As far as I'm concerned, if a student doesn't learn something, it's not because he didn't try. It's because I failed to teach him i ... read more

Florida Certified Educator for Elementary to High School

I have a collaborative style of teaching. My ultimate goal is to get students to think, regardless of their age. With younger students, I tend to be much more directive so that we accomplish intended learning. With middle and high school students, I ask "Why" and "How do you know" quite often so that they learn to provide evidence for their thinking. Getting the RIGHT answer isn't the goal -- understanding and developing critical thinking processes are much more valuable!
I have two decades of experience in education. My first 10 years were spent in adult education training adults to work in various organizations in the business world. My last 10 years have been spent in public education classrooms working as a teacher for elementary, middle, and high school students. I have taught core content courses at each level. Therefore, I understand how each grade level builds upon ... read more

I am committed to helping each person reach his or her highest and greatest potential. My goal is to provide each student with an educational environment conducive for a successful learning experience. The tutor must establish the learning setting by creating parameters for the emotional, physical, and mental safety of each student. Specifically, this means the physical location must be without distracters, while the learning content is perceived as helpful, fun, exciting, relevant, and beneficial. The demeanor of the instructor must be serious while being neither stern nor judgmental.
Over the years, I have consistently maintained both high moral values and excellent academic standards. While earning my two BA Degrees, I served both as a tutor and substitute teacher in several elementary schools. My second BA Degree was earned from Warner University in the elementary educatio ... read more

My approach to tutoring is one of patience, practice and fun. I believe in staying on topic but also be available to detour to relevant topics that may broaden the application of the subject being studied. Through the use of computers, research and practical examples, my students are given different approaches to enhance their study skills. For me, learning any new subject begins with learning its language. For example, in math and science, vocabulary and usage are keys to understanding processes basic to any application. Finally, I welcome the opportunity to explore you or your child's talents, helping to identify and adapt a personal style of learning to ensure educational success. )

A Little Bit About Me...

I have vast experience teaching many subjects at various levels ranging from preschool to high school. The subjects I have taught include reading, writing, grammar, advanced literature, and history. In addition to graduating with honors with a Bachelor's degree in English Education, I am currently enrolled in Montessori training, which offers me additional teaching strategies to enrich students' learning.
I strive to adapt my teaching strategies to the individual needs of each student. My goal is to plan lessons that will be effective and enjoyable for each student. I believe in encouraging students to use higher-level thinking skills and in providing hands-on opportunities for learning. One of my strengths is determining each student's weaknesses and planning lessons that will lead them on the road to success.

I am patient, understanding and provide a constructive approach to learning. By providing a healthy and safe environment I believe that the child will be able to excel in their learning abilities. During my four years of undergraduate studies, I have spent three years tutoring in the subject area of English. While maintaining a full course load and working full time, I have managed to tutor over 107 students during this period. The majority of the material covered included essay writing at a college level, (scholarship essays, admissions essays, formation of a thesis paper, etc.). After graduating with a BA in English, I went on to pursue a career in teaching. Over the last year, I have had the opportunity to teach at both a middle school and a high school level. This has given me the experience necessary to tutor a younger age group, and has helped me learn new ways to assist students in understanding the material. Currently as a 10th grade teacher, I volunteer both my lunch and planning period to tutor students for the FCAT, assist them with essay writing, grammar and usage, as ... read more
