A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a special education teacher for 10 years, teaching primarily Reading, although I have taught other subjects. I have tutored numerous students both privately and through a local tutoring organization and the Learning Resource Center of Polk County. Through my educator preparation and Master's degree programs at Warner University, I was taught to treat students as individuals and to utilize their areas of strength in order to remediate their areas of need.

Over the last three years I have worked in Hillsborough County as a Middle School Science Teacher. After three years of teaching Science I had a strong desire to work with ESE and Special Needs children so I became a Sub for Hillsborough County so I could travel where need and work with various children. Prior to teaching in FL, I taught in SC and provided reading pull out in WV. During my time in WV I worked on a dual Masters in Literacy and Elementary Education, but was unable to finish it due to lack of aid. I enjoy tremendously my interaction with pupils. I like to observe how their self esteem increases as they master difficult concepts. I help them tackle these concepts by introducing more efficient techniques and by presenting information from a different perspective. I strive to create a learning environment where the student is comfortable enough to ask questions, reiterating that it's OK to make mistakes and that my positive perception of them won't deteriorate regardless of how many they've made.
