Experienced teaching students with learning differences

Students learn in a positive learning environment. Everyone is unique thus everyone has unique learning styles. I focus on the positives each student has achieved and then, together the student and I strengthen the areas that need improvements. For example, there has been a recent emphasis on time test for all math operations. Personally, I believe this is testing the student test taking skills more than their math ability. I believe this can cause test anxiety issues. As a substitute teacher, I have reviewed the results of students’ test and made custom flashcards for the few math facts they need to memorize. I put them in an envelope for them with a note to memorize one or two at a time. I suggest placing one at their placemat and the other math flashcard where brush their teeth.

I learned how to play chess about twenty years ago, it's been rather on and off since then. I've steadily improved and tried so many different ways to improve before finding the right method for myself that I'm confident in my many approaches to teaching. I employ the Socratic method of asking lots and lots of questions.
