Latin is notorious in the modern world for being considered dry and irrelevant, but I like to take a more modern approach, influenced by my study of Spanish. I believe that all students, of varying degrees and preparation, can find use of and success in Latin, Spanish, and the overall study of grammar. I have been a teacher for 7 years. I have taught in a small-town private, Christian two-room schoolhouse (K-8); I currently substitute teach for OPS, and have been to all but one school in the district. I have also tutored on and off over the years, both individually and in small groups, both privately and through school district or companies. I enjoy working with students in a smaller setting, especially one or two at a time, and helping them understand concepts and thus succeed in their schoolwork.
The process is just as important as the product. My comments on tutoring SAT - Verbal : I received a score of 730 on the verbal part of the SAT when I applied to college. In the past year I helped prepare a Chinese student applying to college in the US for the SAT. (He was admitted to five of the seven universities he applied to and is planning to attend the University of Massachusetts.)

I try to find out what a student is interested in and incorporate that. In my work with Lincoln Public Schools I often have extra time with students since we complete the required material more quickly than the general class, and I often use that for special projects that apply the concepts we're learning to fields like computer science, architecture, and art.
I've been a Mentor with Lincoln Public Schools for over a year. Mentors function as one-on-one teachers for gifted students in an area of their strength. I've taught math to elementary school students (many of whom were in middle-school level math) and am also qualified as a Chinese mentor for all levels and a Social Studies mentor.
