I am a Kent State University graduate with a minor in Japanese. I also spent a semester abroad in Japan and have experience being immersed in the language and culture. I understand the hurdles of learning Japanese and want to share my knowledge. I can confidently tutor beginner or intermediate levels of Japanese. My comments on tutoring Japanese : I studied for a month in Osaka, Japan, to augment my university Japanese classes. Native speakers certify that my pronunciation is extremely native-like

I employ the Socratic method of asking lots and lots of questions. I see a tutorial as not a time for a student to soak up information, but to engage the mind and use the tools he has already been given. Of course, if a student truly doesn't know something crucial, I will tell him. I always try to make my instruction at least a little bit funny, and to connect the material to the student's interests, because these factors are known to enhance learning.
I have five years' experience as a writing tutor at my university, during which I wrote and presented papers at multiple regional conferences for university writing tutors. I rose to become one of the most respected and requested tutors out of my peers. I many credit hours of pedagogy and teaching methodology classes, both for Teaching ESL and Latin, and a semester of student teaching under my belt.

Japanese is one of my top subjects! I have over a year of experience as a free-lance translator/proofreader, as well as a few months experience as an official translator/interpreter at an automotive parts supplier. I have been speaking and using the language for over 8 years.

I have two years of experience teaching and tutoring ESOL in Japan, in both classroom environments and in private one-on-one sessions.
