I taught high school English, journalism and speech for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013. I also taught a year in middle school, a year in community college and worked in administrative positions at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. I have worked with students at all levels, from remedial to advanced placement and worked in an alternative high school setting. I have received training in the scoring of advanced placement literature exams and am a published writer. I also have taught SAT prep classes.
I like to get to know my students and build a strong relationship with each one. I work to connect the subject matter to their lives and to the real world. I set high standards, but understand that each student will work toward those standards at his or her own pace and in his or her own style.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a Masters degree in anthropology (with minors in zoology and philosophy) and a Bachelors degree in zoology (with a chemistry minor) from Oregon State University. I have tutored high school students in math, science, reading, and writing for the Upward Bound program, was a teaching assistant in college biology laboratory and biological anthropology courses at OSU, and later a teacher of bioanthropology at Klamath Community College, OSU (online and on campus) and Western Oregon University. I was laid off in December 2009 due to budget cuts, but continue to present lectures and write scientific literature. I hold BAs in History and Modern Languages (German/French), and have done graduate work in Theology and French Translation. A Little Bit About Me...

As an older student I was very driven to achieve a high level of excellence in my education, hardly ever missing a class. I earned my bachelor's degree from Oregon State University, taking mainly writing and literature. In my master's program I did a lot of writing classes and I focused mainly on publishing, and subjects such as editing and grammar. Instead of taking Spanish, I took statistics. This was very hard and I passed all three math classes after not having any math for many years. I also did some technical writing and creative writing. My computer skills are pretty good also, as I had to learn how to do desk top publishing, and many other computer skills.
