I don't have a formal experience of teaching in a class, but i do have a lot of experience from teaching my fellow classmates and occasionally teaching in front of the whole class. Its actually easier for me to teach one on one since I think I can give the student all the personal attention they need and will be able to devote more time inorder to make them understand the subject and master it. I could also give them easier ways to help them capture and master the subject.

Before heading over to college, I tutored children whose ages range from pre-school to high school. I tutored them in math, science, grammar, and piano. Class size ranged from 1 to 15. During the years, we have formed a strong bond, and I make it a point in my return trips home to see them! As a result, I form a connection with those that I tutor in order to understand their way of thinking and maximize learning. Each child is unique, and I try my hardest to fit the child’s needs. If your child is active, that is okay! I am enthusiastic and energetic. If your child is shy, that is okay! I am friendly and light-hearted. While in college, I focused on tutoring elementary and middle schoolers in math, science, and grammar. Moreover, I tutored college students in general chemistry, biology, and physics. Therefore, I have the ability to teach children who have a wide range of educational b ... read more

I currently am a senior at the University of Cincinnati studying Computer Science. Before my freshman year I was a part of the summer bridge program as a part of Emerging Ethnic Engineers through which community service plays a large pay role. Each summer during my college career I would assist the incoming summer bridge students with their studies which include a rigorous math and science curriculum. My personal favorite topic to assist with is physics. Furthermore, during the school year we would partake in math help nights where we would assist K-12 with problems they are having in their subjects.
I prefer a more open style to assisting students, where I go over their work issues and try to spark a conversation through which I can get a better understanding of the students reasoning.

My teaching style focuses on collaboration with the student, ensuring that knowledge is recieved organically, and not forcibly. I approach teaching and tutoring as an exercise in problem solving. It requires assessment of the student's background, previously mastered skills, learning style, and engagement with the content. I believe that anyone can be taught anything; the key is developing an engaged, encouraged student with the fundamental knowledge to grasp the concepts at hand. Sometimes this requires remediation of specific skills. Other times, a student needs to understand the big picture so concepts can take root. Some students may require a visual demonstration while others master concepts best by diving head first into the content and asking questions when they arrive at a sticking point. I believe my flexibility and breadth of experiences and interests help me to connect to each student.
My background includes a Bachelor's degree in history and economics supplemented with minors in math, music, and ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In between obtaining my BA in political science and English from the University of Mississippi in 2009 and returning to school for chemical engineering I spent a year and a half working with student governments on college campuses as a political consultant for a public policy organization. I learned to love working with students through this experience, so when I returned to school it seemed natural to become an academic tutor. I have successfully worked with students of all ages in all levels of mathematics up to calculus II at the college level in addition to AP biology, chemistry, physics, government, grammar, writing, reading and ACT prep.
My teaching style revolves around the idea of mastering important aspects of a subject area before moving to a more difficult subject area. In our current education system, students are allowed to move to more difficult courses without having ... read more

My students have told me that I have a knack for pinpointing where their difficulty lies. I then clearly and patiently elucidate the difficulty until my student is confident in their understanding.
